Guitar 101 and abroad - Tuning - September 8, 2004

Seven tips for Tuning
101
1. Standard tuning for the guitar is EADGBE (from low to high)
2. To tune by ear start by tuning your low E with an intune piano or pitch pipe. Then, match pitches with 6th and 5th strings by placing your finger on the fifth fret of the 6th string. Then, raise or lower the the pitch of 5th string accordingly to match that of the 6th. Then once the 5th sting is in tune, do the same with the remainder of the strings. Once you get to the 3rd and 2nd strings just remember to place your finger on the 4th fret of the 3rd string (the 2nd string is a half step lower than the rest...the only complicated part). Then for the 2nd and 1st strings you resume back to the 5th fret on the 2nd string for matching pitch.
3. I recomend Korg tuners, because they're cheap and very reliable. You can usually find one for $35 or less at the right music store.
4. Never, ever, ever attempt to tune your guitar then say on stage "Oh, well good enough for_____." No one in the audience finds this joke funny.

Abroad
6. Try alternate tunings such as DADGAD and DADGBE(drop D). They make your ears work and you can usually create some interesting sounds.
7. Study several Joni Mitchell tunings.. the queen of alt. tunings

Listen - August 30, 2004

Sometimes it's not about rushing, hustling to get there... It's about listening and opening up to the right direction. I think we find it easier to ignore the open doors of wisdom in life and slide through to the fast food, fast-grooving lick, and instant click. An industrial age turned information that somehow forgot to listen. What was that you said with your eyes? What was it you really meant? Time is burning faster than your cigarette, a constant short supply that will always be in demand. As another day has passed I know I'll never see again. And yet I forget, How could I forget? to listen...

Vanishing - July 23, 2004

Somewhere in Northeastern, Ohio I've huddled away from the world for a bit to come back to do a little "soul searching", a very necessary thing for artists and just all people in general. And through this soul searching I've come to 2 definate conclusions. One: That there is a much higher power than myself and Two: I am not in control of my life as much as I think I am. With these two revealings in mind, I think I'll just start living day to day and tell you what I'm "doing", as in the now, and maybe what I did a day or two ago. That makes things more simple and keeps it "real". So check back from time to time and I'll let you know what I've been doing, and you do the same by dropping me a line in the guestbook, because I really would love to hear from you.
Peace, Sarah
